In my hometown, Statesville, NC. It's weird to be back here. Downtown has been revitalized and the mall is dead.
Hooray for that.
Reminder that my constant reference drink is an americano, black, no sugar. My impressions: Nutty taste, aroma of almond extract, but subtle. Woody. Medium body, almost dry (as in dry wine, it's not a bad quality). Light acidity. Refreshing. Something in the aftertaste I can't figure out.
What I don't taste: chocolate, caramel, fruit.
Let's compare to the label: Brazil beans, espresso roast. Roasted in Statesville. Advertised profile: "Dark chocolate, creamy, cashew."
Trying the decaf now, same Brazilian bean...looking for chocolate and not finding it. Lol. Maybe it's too watered down.
Creamy? Maybe I haven't experienced enough variety of coffee textures to discern the differences.
The shop itself is a little too shiny and bright for my taste. It serves caffeine and alcohol, doubling as a wine shop, with beer on tap too. Large space with double levels. Sidewalk seating available. No scones! I got an overly sweet coffee cake muffin. A pet peeve of mine is pastries suffocated in plastic wrap, but that may be down to local health regulations.
Overall a nice little addition to Statesville.
