Pour over is their game.
But I start with my standard americano. Distinct nutty aroma at first. Watermelon? Some kind of watery fruit, if that makes sense. It's weird - there's a flow of air from ceiling fans that seems to be canceling out or disrupting the aroma. Not getting any chocolate on this one. Not like any other coffee I've had so far. I like it.
Turns out it's a roast I had before at Sweet Donkey Coffee House. lol. It's Counter Culture's Big Trouble. It did not taste familiar to me. Last time I tasted it I noted a different profile but the nuttiness is a constant and some fruit I can't put my finger on. I noted chocolate before that I couldn't make it out on this one. A failure of my palate or different brewing conditions? Chocolate is such a common flavor in coffee that I generally expect to find, and actively look for it. So who knows?
For seconds, I indulged in a pour over Ethiopian and the blueberry flavor is pronounced -, clear unmistakable, and wow, I like that! There's some chocolate as well. Tasting notes list blood orange, but if it's there I can't separate it from the powerful blueberry flavor.
The space is interesting. Part of it looks like a diner, with a seating counter and bar stools, behind the counter are shelves backed by mirrors and stacked with plates, cups, saucers, glasses. Classic melancholy jazz pop tunes in the back. As I linger the jazz gives way to old R&B.
There's a vinyl record shop in the back and the walls of the shop are adorned with paintings of classic jazz, blues, and rock & roll icons and album covers.
Final verdict - fabulous coffee in a lovely little coffee shop. Get the pour over!
